We're celebrating Black History Month 2025 at Southside Shopping Centre!

Join us at Southside Shopping Centre this October as we celebrate Black History Month with a vibrant line-up of events that highlight the creativity, culture, and heritage within the community right here in Wandsworth.

Shumba Steelband

Kick off the celebrations with Shumba Steelband – a 4-piece steel pan band performing live on the Piazza. Three 30-minute performances will take place at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm on Saturday 4th October, infusing the centre with the joyful melodic sounds of the Caribbean.

And that's not all! Following the performances, visitors will have the chance to try their hand playing a steel pan themselves with a special workshop too, as well as discover more about its history.

Pointe Black

Community ballet company Pointe Black will perform on the North Mall in Southside Shopping Centre on Saturday 18th October with performances at 1pm and 4pm.

Blending classical ballet with African and Caribbean influences, Pointe Black is a global movement with outreach projects spanning from South London to Guatemala.

This performance will feature excerpts from Point Black's fifth theatre production Overcome, as well as celebrating highlights from previous storylines too.

Ms Truths & Vibesquad Lee

Adding to the excitement, London-based DJ duo Ms Truths & Vibesquad Lee will be performing live on Saturday 18th October 18th from 12pm - 6pm.

Their specially-curated set will feature steel pans rhythms and powerful vocals, inspired by the theme of standing firm in power and pride — a celebration of identity, strength, and community.

Wakuda Market

From 20th – 25th October, Wakuda will bring its popular marketplace to Southside. Known for championing African and Caribbean brands, Wakuda is a fantastic destination for discovering unique gifts and lifestyle products.

In the Southside Wakuda market, guests will be able to explore products including handcrafted jewellery, natural skincare and haircare, greeting cards, home décor, and more, with all items created by talented Black-owned businesses.

The market will be open from 11am-5pm daily, and will be located on the North Mall opposite Specsavers and Poundland.
