Purple Tuesday at Southside
Join us at Southside as we celebrate Purple Tuesday, the global movement dedicated to improving the customer experience for disabled people and raising awareness of accessibility.
At Southside, we do our best to ensure our shopping centre is accessible to everyone, and we are regularly audited so that our services are suitable for all our visitors to come and enjoy.
On Tuesday 4th November we’ll be supporting Purple Tuesday, the UK's accessible shopping day, and raising awareness of the accessible features and facilities available in our centre.
Our accessible services include:
- Blue Badge parking spaces
- Stoma-friendly and accessible toilet facilities
- Hidden Disability sunflower lanyards
- Autism-friendly quiet hours (every Wednesday from 9am - 11am)
- Free Shopmobility service with scooter and wheelchair hire
Connect with us using British Sign Language (BSL)
SignLive is a Video Relay Service that allows our deaf and hard of hearing guests to connect with an online BSL Interpreter during opening hours. The BSL interpreter will talk to the member of staff you would like to connect with and sign their responses to you.
The service can be accessed by scanning our SignLive QR code at the Centre Management Office. You can also access SignLive via the app or a web browser. Please ask a member of staff if you’d like to use SignLive.
How we’re supporting Purple Tuesday this year…
This year we’ll be partnering with charities to raise awareness and funds for some incredible causes.
One Trust will be hosting an art exhibition created by service users, as well as fundraising and raising awareness, while Beyond Autism and Mind will also be on site to fundraise and share more information about the services available and how these can be accessed.
On Tuesday 4th November, we'll also be hosting The Baked Bean Charity, an adult disability group who help those with learning disabilities maximise their lives. This year, guests are invited to take part in Baked Bean Zumba, and there'll be a DJ performance on the day too.
Members of the Southside team will also be present throughout the day to give out lanyards and share more information about the accessible services available in the centre.
